Conditioned Emotional Response (CER) - It happend to me!

This is not a "Clicker" training story....but close enough!

Background:

I am originally from Argentina and I met my husband (US American) at a Neuroscience Conference in Chile. Love at first sight....you know the usual story.

The problem was that I was studying biology at University of Buenos Aires and he was studying for his Masters Degree at the University of Wisconsin!!!! So, for 2 and a half years, 9 months of which we were already married, we were apart. And we are lucky, because this era has internet, voice over the internet phone, e-mail, chat, webcams! My grandmother kept telling me she used to send letters that would take a month to arrive when she was away from my grandfather!

CER:

Anyway, me and my husband used to chat with yahoo chat every single day, several times a day. We would get up at the same time and have breakfast together, maybe chat a little through out the day and again at night, having dinner together and maybe playing and on-line game.

At that time, Yahoo had this little "knock on the door" noise when someone on your list came on-line, which for me was 99% of the time my husband. So, if he was on a trip or out with friends, or simply getting up in the morning and logging-in, I would wait and wait until I heard that wonderful sounds that meant he was home and we would have time together!

Now I live with him, and it has been a long time since I have used yahoo messenger for anything, but after a year I happened to open the program to use the webcam with my mom and ....I heard the "knock"!!!! My heart leaped! And I instantly understood what CER means! :)

what a wonderful story

What a delightful story, I am so happy for you that you managed to stay together, and are now living together.

I can't help thinking about this sentence:
"I would wait and wait until I heard that wonderful sounds that meant he was home and we would have time together!"
That must be how our dogs feel everytime they hear our steps outside the door....
