Book Tour Karen
I've upgraded my hairstyle. I've been power-walking to build extra stamina. I'm practicing sound bites, using eye makeup, studying Diane Sawyer's wardrobe, and trying to figure out if it's possible to train dogs on camera while wearing jewelry and a skirt—never mind the high heels. ClickerExpo faculty member Joan Orr calls this look "Book Tour Karen." I guess it is! Reaching the Animal Mind will be published officially on June 16, 2009, with television appearances and plenty of press interviews to follow.
If you've already ordered your own signed copies of the book, June 16th is the day we'll begin shipping them to you. Fran Davis in the shipping room tells me I will be signing HUNDREDS of books. I'm looking forward to it! Order your signed copy now.
Reaching the Animal Mind has already reached some interesting human minds. Here are a few comments from advance readers.
"Pryor strikingly demonstrates how ethological expertise-knowledge of a subject's basic biology and behavior-is a prerequisite for success in animal training." —Irene Pepperberg, author of Alex and Me
"...This book should fascinate the scientist, the trainer, and the casual animal lover...Karen has always been a compelling storyteller, but this book truly caps her amazing career...required reading for everyone who works with or cares about animals." —Ken Ramirez, vice-president, Shedd Aquarium, author of Animal Training
"Karen Pryor shows how clicker training has solved problems that traditional training methods could not solve, or worse, that those methods caused. The more that people follow the principles in this book, the better off the world will be..." —Julie Vargas, President, the B.F. Skinner Foundation, author of Behavior Analysis for Effective Teaching
"Karen Pryor explains positive training methods in an easy to understand manner that can be quickly learned by all animal lovers." —Temple Grandin, author of Animals in Translation
"Karen Pryor has been at the forefront of humane and science-based training for decades, and this book shows us why. With compelling stories and accessible science, Reaching the Animal Mind is an inspiration for everyone who loves animals and wants to train them with compassion and respect." —Patricia McConnell, author of The Other End of the Leash
What these reviewers don't tell you is that the book is FUN. Full of jokes. An easy read. With my blessings, take it to the beach!
