Karen Pryor Awarded the Prestigious Maxwell Award

The award, presented on the eve of the 2002 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, was awarded for the series of groundbreaking articles Karen wrote in the AKC Gazette on training dogs for the show ring without the use of force or punishment.

Pryor was the winner of last year's Purina-sponsored award for the best book on cat behavior. She discussed the rise of clicker training, her own experiences as a pioneer in the field, and clicker work with cats. A discussion of clicker ways to befriend feral cats and kittens brought the audience of cat experts to their feet in a standing ovation.
