Last night I had a new batch of babies in puppy class. I had:
Lucy the Cavalier
Jake and Brodie the Sheltie brothers
Contessa and "Mr. Studley" (I love that name!) the Doxies
Boomer the Boston Terrier
and last but not least, Roxie the Boxer!
We worked on introducing the clicker, the name game, sit, lie down and wait. I always love seeing the "light bulb" moments as the puppies learn they get us to click them! We also worked on teaching the puppies that good things come out of oral dosing syringes to help make mouth handling and future medicating easier. Since I do teach in a veterinary hospital, these are hot topics for me!
Puppy play time as usual was a ton of fun. The first night is often tough for new puppies to figure out how to interact with one another. For the most part, these guys did great. I must say I am really happy to have a bunch of small pups this time around, it is so fun to watch the itty bitty babies play without getting myself knocked down! Last session I had all large Labs and a Great Dane, and although I love them all dearly, it is so much work managing the big guys play times! This class is like a vacation!
I think Boomer has stolen my heart for the fast learner in class. Jake and Brodie are my future sports dogs. I see them tearing up the agility course some day! Contessa is our class princess, not in a bad way! She just loves the lime light! Mr. Studley wants to be a tough guy, but it's hard when you are only a few inches off the ground! Roxie is adorable. She works and works though class and in the last few minutes she collapses and falls deeply asleep! Lucy is a bit of a wall flower during play time with the puppies, but she sure can work the room for the people!
Next week we are on to working on come when called and trading objects in their mouths as well as more body handling and massage exercises!
