Foundation Curriculum
Courses for beginners at ClickerExpo

If you're new to clicker training (even if you are very experienced in other dog-related areas), we have created a crackerjack Foundation Curriculum: Sessions specially designed for the new clicker trainer. The Foundation Core Curriculum maps out recommended courses for all three days at ClickerExpo. Please refer to the narrative description Should Beginners Come to ClickerExpo? as well. When you register for ClickerExpo you should reserve spots in Labs, all other courses are open seating.

Day 1

• Reaching the Animal Mind—Opening Plenary Session
• A Moment of Science: Clicker Training 101 (Part 1)
• Shaping! Build the Behavior You Want
• A Moment of Science: Clicker Training 101 (Part 2) or Shaping! In Action (Lab)*

  * If you’ve brought your dog, we recommend you reserve a working spot in the Shaping! In Action Lab.

Day 2

• What a Cue Can Do: Developing Cueing Skills
• What a Cue Can Do in Action (Part 1): On Cues Control! (Lab)**
• Rosetta Bone: Understanding Animal Body Language or Punishment and the Public
• Panel Discussion

  **If you’ve brought your dog, we recommend you reserve a working spot in the What Cue Can Do in Action Part 1 Lab. If not, reserve a spot as an Observer

Day 3

• The Complete Trainer: A Road Map for Education & Skill Development or Metamorphosis!: Facilitating Successful Transitions from Traditional Training or Teaching Self-Control: A Sit Is Not Enough
• What a Cue Can Do in Action (Part 2) Cue Comprehension (Lab) or Teaching Self-Control: In Action (Lab)***
• Learn Anything!: An Introduction to TAGteach or Accelerating Success: Data-Driven Training (Lab)
• Conference Review and Close

  ***If you’ve brought your dog, we recommend you reserve a working spot in the What Cue Can Do in Action Part 2 Lab. If not, reserve a spot as an Observer. If you attended the Teaching Self-Control Session, you might instead attend the Teaching Self–Control lab. Read the lab description carefully as it is also an intermediate Level lab. If you are working with your dog you should check to see that you meet the requirements
