Dealing with Shyness in Rescue Bernese Mountain Dogs

Hi and Welcome to my Blog....I am new to clicker training and am waiting for my beginners kit to arrive.  My husband and I have 2 rescue Bernese Mountain Dogs who are both shy although both are so much happier than they were when we got them.  Gracie has been with us for 2 years this month, and Gretel will mark her first 'anniversary' with us in Feb.  You can see their 'stories' on our flickr site:  flickr.com/photos/magpie/   I hope clicker training will be the gentle method for helping these two sweet, gentle Berners.  They both need only positive training and interaction with humans.  From what I have read, I believe that this will be the best way to work toward Canine Good Citizen certification.  Both of our girls, were rescued from puppy mills by BARC, the Bernese Mountain Dog Auction Rescue Coalition, a great organization of very dedicated BMD lovers.  Google BMD BARC and visit their website.  We live in a small coastal village in Southeast Alaska, paradise for Berners and humans alike.  Check back for updates on clicker-training of Gracie and Gretel, in Paradise!
